Psalms 122--
Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
2 Our feet have been standing
Within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem is built
As a city that is compact together,
4 Where the tribes go up,
The tribes of the LORD,
To the Testimony of Israel,
To give thanks to the name of the LORD.
5 For thrones are set there for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
7 Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.”
8 For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, “Peace be within you.”
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God
I will seek your good.
I first came to Israel when i was 10 and my favorite part of the trip was Jerusalem. I remember loving walking the Old City at night. It really is a beautiful thing to see the walls lite up and the streets and stones shinning!! I love the energy at night! I had a friend walk with me tonight and we explored the old city, it was so fun!
Funny story-- Today i was waiting at the western wall for my friend to finish praying...while i was waiting, there were two girls my age sitting next to me...I was listening to their conversation and came to the conclusion that they were from New York and over here attending the University...
Anyway, one of them was so upset because her "matchmaker" was trying to hook her up with a guy from Brooklyn who has a bad reputation, anyway the girl called the matchmaker 5 different times voicing her frustration with the set up... it was so funny to listen to. She was demanding that the matchmaker find her another candidate... I almost leaned over and said, "Can you give me the "matchmakers" number..." haha JUST joking.
I guess a "matchmaker" is the Jewish version of our E harmony..
Also, i just really want to thank 2 sweet ladies from Calvary, Pat Vega and Laurie Barrow(and family), thank you so much for sending me such sweet gifts/cards, and thinking of me amidst the busy Christmas Season, you blessed me more then you know, it was so unexpected!
Love to you all...thank you for your prayers...
Sarah

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem
ReplyDelete- Shalu Shalom Yerushalayim
"When we hear the word peace we usually associate this to mean an absence of war or strife but, the Hebrew meaning of the word shalom has a very different meaning. The verb form of the root word is shalam and is usually used in the context of making restitution. When a person has caused another to become deficient in some way, such as a loss of livestock, it is the responsibility of the person who created the deficiency to restore what has been taken, lost or stolen. The verb shalam literally means to make whole or complete. The noun shalom has the more literal meaning of being in a state of wholeness or with no deficiency. The common phrase shalu shalom yerushalayim (pray for the peace of Jerusalem) is not speaking about an abcense of war (though that is part of it) but that Jerusalem (and by extension all of Israel) is complete and whole and goes far beyond the idea of "peace"."

The Peace of Jerusalem is not about an absence of war but more so the actual Second Coming of Jesus. That is the only time there will be peace in Jerusalem; the only time Jerusalem will be complete and whole - when Jesus once again stands there.
Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem – Pray for the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus.
